Competitive Swimming

Swim Meets are held within the province with some opportunities available to travel out of province with the club invitation.

There are various levels of meets that require little to no qualifying time standards that most of the team will be attending initially.

With increased  training and racing experience, swimmers will achieve time standards that will open opportunities to  attend higher-level meets.

Meet Calendar 2025-2026

Swim gear

Swimmers are expected to have the following gear as soon as possible. Items can be purchased from a variety of swimming suppliers, including Speedo, TYR Sport, Swim Outlet, and Arena, etc.

There is no requirement to use a specific brand, but swimsuits should be well-fitted, comfortable, and suitable for training.

Team colors are purple and black, and many members choose suits in these colors.

Required Items:

  • Swimsuit – One-piece, jammer, or brief (Speedo-style).
  • Goggles – 1–2 pairs; goggles with an adjustable nose piece, strap, and secure suction fit are recommended for best performance. Speedo Vanquishers are a popular choice for durability and fit.
  • Kickboard – 1
  • Pull Buoy – 1
  • Swim Cap – The team has a selection of caps available. Please check with the coach before purchasing, as you may be able to receive one at no cost.
  • Short Flippers – Sized like shoes; should fit snugly but not too tightly. Avoid scuba-style flippers, which are unsuitable for swim training.

Optional:

  • Mesh Swim Gear Bag – Useful for carrying and storing swim equipment during practice. These bags are kept on the pool deck and will get wet. Not recommended for storing clothing or towels.
  • Tech suits are often worn by experienced competitive swimmers but are not required.

Fundraising

WVST Board of Directors are working hard to apply for various grants and offer fundraising opportunities  in hopes of lessening the cost for families; however, this is not guaranteed.

All families will have the opportunity to work towards fundraising for the team. In past seasons the team has done a Grand in your Hand, 50/50 draw.

We’re always on the lookout for fun and creative fundraising ideas to support the team’s needs. If you have suggestions or want to help, please bring your ideas forward — we’d love to hear from you.

Parent Volunteering and Involvement

We are excited to welcome you into our Stingray family. Parents are very involved and work together to create opportunities for our swimmers. Being a volunteer-run club, parent involvement is crucial to our success. Our enthusiastic parents volunteer on deck, help with fundraising efforts, and take on many other important roles. We need your support to keep the team strong and thriving.

Parents are invited to be part of the  Board of Directors which focuses on steering the club and making decisions pertinent to each swimmer.  There will also be monthly meetings with parents during the first 15-20 minutes of practice to keep parents  well-informed.

Please note that if your swimmer plans to attend swim meets, that it is MANDATORY for you to volunteer as a Timer at least once during the meet.

The options for volunteering are as follows:

  • Board of Directors, Executive member or Board member. Voting rights for both positions. Meetings  at least once a month. You would need to be available and cannot miss more than two meetings.  There are several positions available including Secretary.
  • Assistant coach/ Pool Deck support - Helping and supporting on the pool deck at least twice a month. At least six parents need to volunteer for this option. Each parent can take a day a week with an option to switch out.
  • Dryland - 1 hour a week - At least four parents can volunteer for this with the option to volunteer  one day a month. They need to be able to participate and help keep swimmers engaged. Ideally,  two parents per session with the option to switch out each week.
  • Timer/stroke judge - Volunteering at each swim meet you attend. We will need to have at least  one parent per session, per meet. This is MANDATORY if your swimmer plans to attend swim meets this season. Each session usually runs for about four hours.
